Ha see YA hold tight!

Well, if you couldn't tell from my subject line that I am the proud holder of a ticket to see the Spice Girls, then you'd best stop reading this post NOW!

Baseball is on hiatus till Wednesday (which also happens to be my birthday), so I feel it is ok for me to write about the exciting events that lead up to my acquiring of said ticket.

But as a side note, what a great birthday gift...Game 1 of the World Series! Yus!

This morning I read Todd's blog, only to note that he was getting tickets. He remarked that he had pre-registered, and it was at that point that I realized I was a tool, because I had failed to do so.

Never to Fret, my trusty old roomate Tapscott, the reliable and responsibly human being that she is, not only pre-registered, but bought the tickets for us. When I got to work I had a pleasant, somewhat incomprehensible email waiting for me, about how I had a ticket to the Spice Girls Reunion Show!

So although many will say that the Spice girls are crap, I loved them as an 11 year old, and as a result they have come to represent a two year chunk of my childhood. Not to mention how much Spice was played during tooth brushing, cleaning, and getting ready for the bar parties!

Needless to say I am pumped.
But now back to baseball.

Yesterday was not a happy one in terms of the outcome of the ALCS. As many had predicted, Boston getting the series back onto their home turf played hugely in their favour and they were able to take Game 6 (saying "take" is an understatement) and much to my dismay they also took game 7. To be honest I don't think of the score as 11-2. Cleveland just took a beating in the last three innings of the game.
And that sucked. A lot. Lofton was totally safe, but was called out by the second base ump, when Manny Ramirez played a ball of the wall. He was quick, but as the instant replay showed, not quick enough for Lofton. Fortunately for Boston there are no instant replays in baseball. Lofton also took a hit when he was told to put on the breaks as he rounded third. I think it was the right call from the third base coach, you don't want to take huge chances, but it's possible that the chance could have changed the outcome of the game.
The one night Dice-K needed to implode, he kept his composure!

The only good thing that comes out of Boston winning, is that at least I have strong sense of which team to root for in the World Series. I think I always would have gone for the Rockies, just because winning 21 of their last 22 is awesome, and I want to see them go all the way.

Not really a technical or argumentative piece on baseball this week, but more of a rant.
I am heading to L.A. next week and am going to miss the end of the series which sucks, so anyone who wants to post updates online should feel free. It will be 4pm when the games start in L.A., which means I will basically miss all of them.

At least there is TSN on American T.V., unlike in France when all you get is Monk in Dutch.

So I've been absent for a while, being in France and all.
Anyway, I am back and sitting on my couch, wrapped in my Jays blanket and watching what could be Cleveland's ticket to the World Series.

Today Joe Torre was offered a ticket for a new job by the Yankees organization. Although I would accept 5 million to pick shit off the street, Joe Tory has the right to some better standards. I think it was good that he turned down a pay cut. It's not like George Steinbrenner doesn't have the money to pay him.
Gorgeous DP just turned, 9th of the series for Cleveland.

Grey's Anatomy is also on, so I'm doing some flipping, but it is hard not to want to watch this game!
I would love a Rockies/Indians Series. Still think I would cheer for the Rockies, but I love how you can get attached to new teams in post.
Should be a low scoring game, and if the Indians' relievers perform like they have all series, Cleveland should have this in the bag. I want to see all of those power towels go flying!

So for the first time in at least four years, it actually feels like my birthday is coming up. October 24th is my birthday. I've been in Boston for the last three years, and at a different regatta in first year during my birthday. Far away from home and the great get-togethers I hosted all through high school.
This year, I'm having lots of people over at the apartment, kickball people, Thornhill and Queen's friends, and I am really excited. I know it is silly to be excited about birthdays but...

So Manny might have just scored a HR, but it was called as still in play. Terry Francona is giving the umps a run for their money with his mouth. Some bad baserunning from Ramirez if he really did think it was a homer.

Ok back to birthdays, I'm pumped. That is the bottom line. One night surrounded by great people and playing board games, and drinking and maybe playing a little midnight baseball if I'm lucky ;-)

I watched a great documentary that we are putting an offer in for acquiring at work. It's called "The First Saturday in May." The film profiles six horse trainers, looking to get their race horses to the Kentucky Derby, which is painted as the World Series of Horse Racing.
Anyway, as part of my job, I got to watch the film before and comment on it from a sales perspective. I haven't written about film since I left school, and it is good to know that I still haven't lost the skill to critique eloquently.

To be honest I don't even know if you can use those two words together.
Regardless, it was good to write, and be creative and critical. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I miss webposts. Filmies will understand what I am talking about.
We had to post once a week about the readings or the films or a mixture of both on a webforum. It was worth 10% of our final mark, but it forced you to do your readings, or at least stay awake during the film.

Bobby Kielty, who we traded Shannon Stewart for, is playing for Boston with a dramatic haircut. Although I feel as though the last time Boston was in T.O. his hair was short as well. It almost seems like he grew it so long, just for his picture.

Richard Gilmour is on Grey's Anatomy, as an intern...weird.

Insane C.C. against Beckett.

This is going to be a goooood game. Too bad I'm in France and can't watch any of it.
Shortest post ever, but I had to comment, because I am so pumped! Will someone please tape this game for me!

Another Garko Homerun and the Indians are up on the Yankees 12-3. Gorgeous!!!

So I'm heading to france tomorrow, best be the time that I make my playoff predictions
Blogger is being really stupid right now, so this should be a short post.

Anyway.
This is what I would like, so I'll predict that way, rather then what I think is realistic (which I know I will take criticism for, but a girl has got to dream.)

Ok, Cleavland will take the Yanks " Chicks did the long ball"

Angels will take Boston

Angels will take Cleavland

Rockies will take Phillies
Cubbies will take D-Backs

Rockies will take Cubbies

Angels will take Rockies

Again, I don't have too much invested in the national league. I would be happy with the Cubs beating the Rockies, and either of them beating the Angles.

But those are the predictions. we will see how I do!

P.S. the self-destructing Mets are not firing their manager.
If Brantley gets fired from the Jays, it is amazing that no one is taking the heat for what happened with the Mets.
